You must by now know the feeling off being too tired to do anything productive, you have late nights, early wake-ups and long school hours, then when you finally get some time to yourself you see it filled with homework, friends, family much needed relaxation time. Its pretty easy to let it become routine, its also easy to get lazy and forget about yourself.
However a little daily exercise could actually leave you feeling better off, especially if you mix it with a healthy diet, as it is proven that eating the right foods and getting some exercise can help lift your mood and give you more energy, so in theory you’ll actually be doing more than before but this time round you’ll feel more in the mood to do things and you’ll be filled with more energy to do them. In fact you’ll probably find yourself feeling happier and your school work is also likely to improve as a result. Oh and the exercise will do your body wonders too!
Getting your daily exercise
Getting that extra bit of exercise is easy to do and can include simple things such as walking to school rather then getting a lift, walking up stairs instead of using the escalators or going for a 30 minute jog each day (if you have a pet dog then bring them along too and they will run beside you). If you have younger brother or sister spend 1 hour running around after them, this will give both you and them a great bit of exercise.
Health officials recommend that you should get at least 30 active minutes of exercise at least 3 days a week but while your starting out do what you can, 15 minutes is a good place to start, but the more your active, the better you’ll feel. Don’t however over work yourself, spending 4 hours a day down the gym will only burn you out and leave you suffering from exhaustion.
When planning your exercise you should always remember to stretch beforehand and warm-down afterwards as this will help avoid injuries.
Getting your healthy diet
You could search through the site to read my other articles about weight loss and healthy eating, but if your short of time here is a short run-down.
Switch sugar carbs for starchy carbs, cut out as much saturated fat from your food as possible, drink water instead of fizzy drinks, eat 5 portions of fruit a day and keep an eye on your calorie intake. Another thing you’ll want to cut down on is your salt intake, also be careful about the dairy products that your eating as they are usually full of saturated fats.
Every time you search the net for information on weight loss or healthy eating you are likely to end up at different advice each time, what you choose to eat is ultimately down to you, but with just some basic knowledge of whats good and whats bad for you you’ll gradually start to eat healthier anyway. Like for e.g. if you knew a can of cola contains around 30g of sugar would you still drink them knowing that most of that sugar is going to cause you to gain weight? You may like cheese smothered on everything but did you take note of how much fat it had in it? And finally you may like them fast food takeaways but most meals contain at least 30% of your daily salt intake in one burger/sandwich.
The point im trying to make is that most people eat unhealthy simply because they are not aware of whats actually inside their foods and what with most foods coming with all nutritional information labelled on the sides of wrappers and packets you dont really have an excuse of not checking before you buy things.
By eating more healthy your likely to also have more energy, and if it helps you to stop weight gain or even help with weight loss your feel a lot better about yourself as a result.
